1) What to name the planet
We get to rename it, so we might as well make it a little more Ares-oriented. Lalande is a good name, in my opinion, and it works fine. If anyone is adamant about Ishima or something, I suppose I can go along.
2) Which should be our first ship
It would seem that our best choice is the Cruiser. None of us can yet afford a Gunship (1.2M cr) and the Fighter doesn't offer much except as an escort. Proposition:
Njord-Class Cruiser
Class: Cruiser (IV)
Speed: 400 AU/h
Def. Shield: 40u
Charge: 0.35u/sec
Armor: 20u
Guns: 4 max
Turrets: 1 max
Space: 0 Tons (50)
Cargo: 30 Tons
Fuel: 1000 (10)
Length: 14m
Mass: 45 Tons
Crew: 2
Cost: 300,000 cr
Accel: 360
Turn: 120°/sec
Weapons:
-4 Laser Blasters
-HR Launcher +10
I've informed both the New Alliance and the Consortium that we're going to be remaining neutral for the time being, and that we will take a more active role when we get stronger. Those of you who have talked to me may know more of the specifics (but we can't state military secrets here, can we?)
I also received a request from wirehead, asking to join us. I told him that the UNSET was a free government, and how to change. I trust no one will disagree? We can't become more powerful without eventually gaining more members.

About the ships: The specs look good! The only thing I would change is the cruiser. Like Mag said, it should be just a tad bit stronger. Maybe replace the lasers with proton cannons, and add 3 free space (for a nice round total of 65). You might also want to bump up the shields up a tad, like 5u (what does u stand for, anyways??) on the cruiser and the gunship. It never hurts to have strong shields . You might have to add 50k to the cost of the ship if you made these changes, but I think its worth it. I'd definately buy it

I'd say 5 to 10 total extra hp on the cruiser, but I think the weapons are fine. We can always upgrade our own when we buy them.

And does the lack of a response indicate that our initial ship will be the cruiser?

If you haven't done so already, tell CheesEv to put you in the gov. Package includes: we get our own bulk missions, the interface turns green, and it makes the Universal Scan more colorful.
Finally, on a completely random note, I don't know Lord Com. Anic's hideout name.

Mag: The Pirate tally is a good idea. I assume you're voluteering to maintain it?

[EDIT] I've noticed that the gunship is basically an attack corvette that trades 30 tons of cargo for small bonuses in various areas (the bonuses add up to being better than the 30 tons of cargo, especially the extra turret), which means it's way underpriced, unfortunately. [/EDIT]

Sounds like you're trying to keep the pirates off your back
Pallas: Seems like the ship is ready to hit the markets. I'm itching to buy one, so don't keep me waiting!
By the way, whos managing the funds for our gov? (eerie, ironic silence from Pat's direction)

We'd probably also need a special section for people to destroy at will, such as if they kept raiding us or we were at war with them and things like that.

About the government leader: My vote (as stated before) is for Patrick to lead the new gov. It was, after all, him who introduced us to the game, and this government was his idea. Plus we all worship him already
I think we should take the idea from page 1 and rename the worlds we colonise as planets/systems from the Ares universe: Obain, Gaitor, Sol, Salril, etc...
Finally, we could be abusive ba$tard$ and require a cash "donation" of 100k as a pre-requisite for joining our government. It would certainly speed our colonisation/ship-building projects along...

And we're not going to be kicking anyone's butt for a while. Remember, both the NA and the Consortium would like to have us as an ally against the other. We should claim a policy of neutrality as long as possible - encourage each of them not to antagonize us into joining the other side. That policy should allow us to grow for a while, and make sure our only real worries would be Beef, Wedge, and Volkov.

I'd volunteer for the financial leader, but I'm not fond of the political aspect that goes with it. I'm not a good diplomat. Are they merged together in the game, or did you just group them together?

This would also tend to make people less willing to sign up with us and more willing to sign up with the new alliance or consortium.
.
This post will also suffice as the one for the list of whom to smack, so here goes:
THE OFFICIAL SMACKLIST (note: a new topic has been made for this, this is an old one):
Anakerie (Consortium):
• destroyed Mag Steelglass on 9/30/02 - attack has not yet been answered for
Wedge (Pirate):
• destroyed DanMan on 10/1/02 - attack has not yet been answered for
• destroyed Pallas Athene on 9/30/02 - attack has not yet been answered for
Beef (Pirate):
• destroyed Patrick on 9/30/02 - attack has not yet been answered for

True...but how many members do we really need? Being small, elite, and exclusive is fun and profitable

Political and Financial are not merged together. However, the only position that actually exists is the position of Financial leader [Access to the government pane]. Being Military leader essentially means I'll coordinate tactics, but that's just messaging and such. Political leader is even more vague - it would likely mean representing us to other nations and making decisions that aren't financial or military in nature.
I would not support a mandatory contribution. However, I think that any decent member would be willing to put in a contribution every once in a while - maybe not 100K, but perhaps 25K once or twice a week. I'd rather have 10 members contribute 50K (500K) each than 3 members contribute 100K (300K).
In the meantime, should we draft a formal statement of intentions to post to the Hideout board? It doesn't do us much good if we don't tell anyone about our policies.

The statement of intentions sounds good. But what are our intentions? Smacklist, neutrality, anything else? Perhaps we should try to hunt pirates down when they're near our territory, making us more popular with traders and such.
