Hey, I was wondering if anyone here lived in Australia. I'm going there soon, so I need to know what to bring. I've heard the lowest it gets is 30-40 in the Outback at night, and 50's in melbourne and sydney. I'm a right, or do I need to know more?

If you mean celsuis temperature, then that is greatly exaggerated...

Bring whatever you'd normally bring for whatever things you've got planned.

I remember heading out on a camping trip when I first arrived, and thinking "Hah, what can Australia throw at me?" Well, I wasn't quite so happy at the top of Mt. Kosciusko in a chilling 16 below 0....

Seriously, though, you don't get daytime temperatures below 12°C (~50°F) in Sydney during the day, and it's presently the heart of winter. At night it can fall pretty low, but probably nothing too exciting for someone from a temperate climate.

Hmmm, I'm not happy when the temperature goes above 75. Of course, I'm perfectly happy around 0, assuming I bothered to put on a long sleeve shirt.

The hottest in melbourne ever was something like 43 degrees... I couldn't wear any... heavy... clothes even because of the heat. Many people died (old, useless members of society).

I trust that you follow all our advice well. And remember, be yourself!!!!!!

Hey, you just need a surf board and a six pack of tinnies.
Got to watch out for the sharks though, and the redbacks, they're deadly.
Perth is nice this time of the year, come to think of it Perth is nice all year round...

In Australia, it is in the middle of winter. If you mean Fahrenheit(sp??), then that's OK. But if you mean Celsius, then you're nuts.

I will, in a slightly more serious way.

Well, the weather will take some getting used to, but it will be nothing compared to Australian broadband. How one could manage is beyond me.

I'd rather be in a room of about 60ºF then the norm of 72ºF.

It's all good... the weather's been decently mild lately, hell I even got away with wearing just a tee the other day (I'm in Melbourne).

[edit]and before you kids get confused, I was wearing pants too :P[/edit]

Indeed. I went for my afternoon jog and raised a light sweat in a T-shirt this afternoon. Admittedly, hail was falling on the other side of Sydney, but that's just how things work.
