Er, for those of you in other countries who haven't read the US Constitution:

This is where the Feds gain the power to impose copyright, patents, and trademarks right? Well, trademarks are granted for an unlimited time, correct? Shouldn't this be unconstitutional? (copyright was originally 14 years btw, now its been extended to some really long time to help out big corps who donate to campaigns(life of author+70 years?))

Post a relevant link.
Make your viewpoint in relation to the argument (unconstitutional?)
If you're argument is that it negatively affects science and art, then I have yet to see you make your point.

A link in this case in unnecessary( I posted the relevant section of the constitution, what's the point of linking to something which says no more than my quote?).

I was asking a question of the forum and therefore it really wasn't neccessary for me to post an opinion of the subject. It's fairly obvious that I take issue with this as obviously limited != unlimited. It also really isn't relevant within this context whether said situation negatively effects the progress of science and the arts as my point was obviously that said situation seems unconstitutional to me and obviously a Federal law which circumvents the constitution is bad.

Oh, and I'm not htjyang and that up above was a post not an article. Thank you all for your offtopicness Posted Image

I don't understand. If the point of the law is to promote science and arts, either you are disagreeing with the point of the law (and hence the law itself) or you believe it no longer fulfills it's function. So I take it you're against science and arts, or don't believe said science arts are worth enough to breach the constitution?

I think this whole thing about the constitution is bull****. You're like one of those children who allege that 'so and so is unconstitutional!!!' without having ANY knowledge of the constitution whatsoever.

Limited ≠ unlimited. The US Constitution was written in plain laguaguge and it's rather obvious what it means in most cases. Whether or not the point of the trademark law in the US is to promote science and the arts, at some point extensions to the terms of trademark/copyright/patents must pass beyond "limited" and become unconstitutional. It seems to me that the unlimited term of trademark already has.

In my opinion there is NOTHING worth breaching the US Constitution without an amendment proposed by 2/3 of both houses of congress or 2/3 of the state legislatures and ratified by 3/4 of the states. We have an amendment process in case parts of the Constitution are worthy of being changed and there's no reason not to use it.

Yes, well it's all very well to allege that such a breach has occurred, but I have yet to see the copyright law in hard form that actually commits the breach. Provide the link or shut up.

Ah, so you meant you were looking for a link on US trademark law? My apologies, didn't realise that someone outside of the US would not be familiar with it(doh!)

There appears to be no stated limit to the term of [edit: oops wrong word]trademark. Also, as usual, they don't bother to say where they claim this power.

You seem to be assuming that i posted this looking for a fight-i didn't. This was intended to be merely a question of opinions of others, not a debate( I would have taken a harder stance and written out why I did take my position if I had intended a debate )
