I am a registered user of Ares, and I play often on GameRanger. Recently, someone challenged me to an Ares game, so I decided to pick it up again...Then such thoughts flooded my mind, "What? I forgot the controls! What? Who made the game controls so complex? Forget it! I hope I got my $20 worth out of this!" This is the first time I realized that controls can realy destroy a game!
Now, I'm thinking of getting EV: Nova to support Ambrosia, but of course NOVA's not multiplayer!

Just my 2-bits and random thoughts...

I would say that the Ares controls are in fact rather simple and intuitive. 3 weapons, turns using the # pad, shift clicking, control to give orders and tab to warp seems simple enough to me, heh.

Mine are a long ways from the default. I use the arrow keys instead, first of all.
Triggers are Space, Cmd, and Shift. Goto is Ctrl
[Now it starts getting different]
Hyperspace is Z
Target is Fn, and Friend/Foe/Base is X/C/V
< and > control zoom
K and L are Computer up/down
/ is Computer Cancel, and Enter is Computer Accept.

It all makes sense once you realize these are intended for a laptop.
