To those of you arguing about arbitrary ranks: Does the word "self-appointed" mean anything to you? That's why these titles sound so pretentious: Because they only an indicator of snobbery.

As to the ORIGINAL "scrub" question, I think the best answer was that of the incentive to post more. More over, it is something that some of you are, and I am not.

Admirals do NOT outrank me. My full title is High Commander. The 6th fleet is huge. Different Admirals who serve under me control different sections of the fleet.

In MY navy we don't have high commanders, so pardon my mistake.
Fleet Admiral (in charge of entire navy)
Admiral (in charge of fleets)
Vice Admiral (in charge of groups (Vice Admiral of the Carrier group, etc)
Rear Admiral (in charge of fleet support vessels and most desk jobs)
Coomodore (in charge of wings of capships (5 battleships, say) or captain of a
large ship (like a gateship))
Captain (commands a capship)
Commander (commands a light capship or serves under a captain as 2nd in command, also in charge of security (Marines) on ships)
Lt Commander (in charge of a section of a ship eg weapondry)
Leutenant (in charge of a small section of ship eg a torpedo bay, or a security
division leader)
Ensign (does a job, like aiming a turret but has a crewman or 2 to help)
Crewman (does a job, like aiming a turret)

Of course, in your navy, it's different.

Uhh... I think this has reached a new and amazing level of patheticness when people on this webboard not only joke about having rank, but have worked out in detail what their rank means and what the jobs are of every rank below them in their imaginary navy...

Then again, at the Axis, I would love to say to somebody 'Your strategy article sucked! You have been demoted to Lieutenant Door Opener, 3rd class!'

Regarding your comment Aithon; Yes they are superficial, self-appointed ranks. But don't exclude yourself unless you preffer to be thought of as a hypocrit. Explanation: "Aithon: Ares' horse of fire" a position to be respected, no doubt, if it were real. Needless to say, you are not a godlike beast of inferno, just as Darkk, Dennis, Myself, and many others are not real admirals of interstellar armadas, or ranking officials in any millitary to begin with. If it were otherwise, you would ravaging the mortal world of Earth, and I wouldn't know, let alone care because I'd be too busy spreading the "eternal enlightenment" of a bunch of slugs through the known universe. Now I don't like to quote this book, but in this case it applies all too well: "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Now, One really creative name (although I slightly despise the persona behind it), is a dillema, an object, a fable, and a catchy tune from The cult classic the Rocky Horror Picture Show. And I have to give a lot of credit to Sword of Damocles for coming up with it, and not calling himself something like "Captain Valiant" and trying to be serious about it.

This now concludes my semi-intelectual rant for the week.

Well? Can you prove it? There could be some distant space armada from which someone here is accessing our global computer network via satellite (and incidently are just now playing a game of multiplayer Ares I finished last week because the signal hasn't got to them yet. Just never you mind how I was able to play against someone the signal never even got to while I was playing.). I'm certain that these distant peoples would understand how grand this game is and would thus labour to build a computer capable of interpreting the MacOS.
I'll just bet, tucked away somewhere at Ambrosia HQ, is at least one US money order from "Canada"...

I can't prove it and no one really can, but logic dictates that it is very, VERY unlikely that a member of another species would post on the board- They wouldn't be quite familiar enough to get the Earth jokes and puns frequently typed, and would eventually be found out. This is, of course, just a hypothesis based on our primitive Earth logic, and I could be absolutely wrong.

But I agree wholeheartedly that there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHAT-SO-EVER that every member of the galactic comunity should abstain from deciphering the grandure that is Ares, or any Ambrosia game.

I bought a "worldwide" site license for our empire of MacOS (better than ours) and Ares (invaluable training tool).
There were a few problems with export regulations, but nothing a little "possession" couldn't resolve.
That was fun, especialy humiliating top US officals (I wonder when Clinton found out what we made him do... (not Monica, something else)).

The "subtle" part is sarcasm.
Did I ever tell you guys about the prank we played about 50 years ago in New Mexico? We uses some tissue from the medlab to make some fake humanoids, put them in an obsolete scout craft, and droped it on a farm. Man was that funny. And some others of us enjoys sending images of bizare creatures to human's minds. They love making random prophecies like that they will land on the White House lawn in 2 years or something. They also love making strings appear in pictures of our scoutcrafts. Drives people nuts. They also mess with lighting and stuff. Anything to make real pictures look fake. Sometimes they also tell people ridiculous stories about universe-wide leagues and bizarre philosophies.
Heh.
And sometimes we make a new car in our onboard factories and go terorrising people who see our scoutcrafts. That's hilarious.
Our species enjoys pranks more than anything.
