So, the new year is coming up in a little over a month, and I want to propose a resolution for everyone to take.

Call the year twenty ten.

We've suffered about a decade of two thousand- bullcrap, and it's time to get back to calling years by their proper names. Think about how you say the year 1908, or even 1999 for that matter. It's nineteen oh-eight, or nineteen ninety-nine. It's time we get back to that. The current year is really twenty oh-nine, not two thousand nine. What's done is done, but let's get things back to normal in the new year. So please, for the rest of the century, and beyond, call the year by its proper name. Make other people call it by the proper name too.

Don't listen to him! It's a once in a millennia opportunity! Two thousand ten for the world!

It'll be the ninth year of the third millennium.

If you want to be all formal, you can say "the ninth year of the third millennium of Christ our Lord and Savior" but it is a bit unwieldy. "Twenty ten A Dee" is easier.

I said the tenth year of the second millennium and that's what I meant. It doesn't have to be accurate for you to call it that.

I completely agree with mazca. Twenty-ten just sounds so much more... streamlined. It's the mother######ing future, so let's make it the mother######ing future.

I always love how people ignore the fact that a light saber would be as effective against somebody with a firearm as an actual sword.

Well, I think it's fair to say it's as effective as a thin metal rod of equal diameter as the beam of energy. A sword has less capability of deflecting bullets as a lightsaber would be, just by the nature of its sharpness/thinness.

No one mentioned fighting a firearm...

I'd still prefer the saber... How much could I ebay that for? £.£

Borrow Mr Rossy's aka JETMAN!

QUOTE
A Swiss man has failed in his attempt to become the first person to fly solo across the Strait of Gibraltar using a single jet-propelled wing.

Yves Rossy, known as Jetman, ditched in the water and was rescued minutes after setting off from above Morocco.

Organisers said he had deployed his parachute after the wing malfunctioned, possibly owing to engine failure.

The 50-year-old became the first person to cross the Channel using a jet-powered wing in September 2008.

Wednesday's 38km (23 mile) flight had been billed as the first crossing of its kind over the north Atlantic between Africa and Europe.

It appeared to begin well as Mr Rossy launched himself from a small plane about 1,950m (6,500ft) above Tangier in Morocco.

Thumbs-up

The former fighter pilot had planned to cut his engines, open a parachute and land in Atlanterra, southern Spain, after a flight lasting up to a quarter of an hour.

But within minutes it was clear all was not well and Mr Rossy plunged into the sea.

He was unhurt when fished from the water by a helicopter, but had been taken to hospital as a precaution, said organisers.

"The good news is that he is fine," Stuart Sterzel, spokesman for sponsors Webtel.mobi, told reporters near Atlanterra. "He gave the thumbs-up sign through the door of the helicopter."

He added that Mr Rossy would probably attempt the crossing again in the new year.

Before setting off on Wednesday, Mr Rossy had said the main dangers were engine failure and losing control of the wing.

The Spanish coast guard was expected to retrieve the wing and parachute from the sea.

The carbon-fibre jet-propelled craft, with a span of more than 2m (6ft 6in), is designed for speeds of 220 km/h (138 mph).

I, too, failed to cross the Strait of Gibraltar on the 25th of November using a carbon fiber jet-wing. Where is my news story?
