After a recent complaint that all of the ATTs latest topics were imitations/flattery of just as recent BnB ones: here's something different.

Being new here, relatively, however, I feel uncomfortable up here on the podium, so I have to ask y'all what a good ATT topic should be.

Hey, gang, just thought I'd stop by and smell the ATT. My, how uniquely and individually ATT this topic is!

I like apple pie.

Apple pie is beast if it's made right. Screw it up and it's a disgrace, though.

Among the many pleasures of the culinary realm I miss from Albuquerque, I could the delicious pies (apple included) of the Flying Star Cafe near the top of the list. Colorado (Boulder County, at least) apparently doesn't know how to make good pie.

Does anyone know anywhere that does an apple pie like McDonalds do an apple pie? Is it some sort of American style? Or is it just something they invented? I've often wondered...

It depends. The fried variety had been a southern thing for quite a while before being picked up by McDonalds. Given that they're fundamentally sweet-dough empanadas (Taco Bell even calls their version an empanada, even though it's basically the same thing as the McDonalds/southern fried fruit pie), I'm betting on them having their ultimate origin in Spain/Latin America.

The baked variety is an American fast food thing.

If you go up to Glacier Park Montana sometime, there's a mom-and-pop shop outside the park entrance that has some of the best pie I've ever tasted. It's called the Park Café. I hope they're still in business, because it would be sad if they weren't. They make a mean huckleberry pie. Their razzleberry pies (blackberry, raspberry and huckleberry) are to die for.

Dangit, this talk of pie is making me hungry...

I wish there was a button next to the Hector webcam video that caused Hector to receive pie whenever someone pushed it. That would be cool.
