Yes, but what have they done for us lately? lol.
As for the mage thing, it's not really possible to complete the game without learning magic, is it? I'm trying to remember. . . Now there is a really cool sword in the game, but you'll have to get through some polyps for that too; I'm assuming you haven't done that yet? I also like to use magic arrows, and I used to use a mace for everything. Otherwise I don't know, I guess people try using crumby weapons as a challenge. . .

And the mine, if you have never met a seldane, it is unimportant right now for you, but you do have to do something there to complete the game (no spoilers given). And the best way to protect party members (for me at least) is to tell them to wait, then provoke the enemies by attacking them, move a little away from your party, then start attacking them. Though usually my party members are very good fighters (or were, as I don't keep them around anymore except for Aethon, who everyone tries to attack and ignores me whille I attack them).
Polyps/scylla/hydra have a role in Cythera, though their masters play an even bigger role. There not just random creatures here and there.

tis not true, the puzzles are easy.
Indeed many involve random acts. I prefer to wander Cythra and defeat villians... but I suppose, like a starfish, if you cut off an arm, they will regrow. Unlike the starfish...the Giant Polyp in the cave south of Kosha. I had to shoot it with arrows, because regular items wern't working. gosh.
that was rewarding. and Comana's leader in CAdemia has the key to Omen's chamber in the beginning test...which was "prepared by his maste"... hmmm just sayin.

Hydra == Female
Funny-looking-dragon-head-and-tentacles == Scylla.
Scylla == Male.
Small-annoying-aggressive-powerfull-strong-green-tentacled-barrel == Polyp.
Polyp == Young (gender unknown, presumably female since they don't swim even though they can).
Comana and Omen are related (storywise). I'm resisting giving spoilers.
