The Scylla. From memory, ranged/magic attacks work quite well - does Slayer's Guide have anything to say on that? Apart from that, maybe you just need to wait until your character is a bit stronger, or has more allies.

I've always thought they were easiest to defeat using a spell called "fireball." That spell is only available in the Fifth Degree Hall in Pnyx, I think. Also if you've got a followers-dying problem, you might want to ask Hector and Mel to retreat; if you haven't already.

Yes, but what have they done for us lately? lol.
As for the mage thing, it's not really possible to complete the game without learning magic, is it? I'm trying to remember. . . Now there is a really cool sword in the game, but you'll have to get through some polyps for that too; I'm assuming you haven't done that yet? I also like to use magic arrows, and I used to use a mace for everything. Otherwise I don't know, I guess people try using crumby weapons as a challenge. . .

I think he is talking about the polyps, cache. Welcome to the boards, cegends. Yes, Ambrosia does rock. What character type did you start out with (ex. rogue, storyteller, etc.)? Do you have any skills (mace, magic, etc.)? Tell us that and we could help you more, using those skills to an advantage.
I'm going back to the ones that know, with whom I can be what I want to be

wow, this brings a whole new meaning to bien "owned". It was Polyps, and I finally defeated them [joyous cheers here]. I am a fighter, I just had to trainup with the ruffians in Cademia. Now on to bigger issues. like the mine, but I suppose I should follow the regular story....Like a good charater.
thanks for the help(s)

Ratcatchers guild? I believe you need Aethon to join you first, and as for unguent, I never use it but if you want to, move some one space, steel it (it will work), and replicate it (that is, if you're able to do magic and have that spell). And minor note, magic is incredibally helpfull in Cythera and I usually don't use the fighter type since they can't do it (or can they? I forgot.)

And the mine, if you have never met a seldane, it is unimportant right now for you, but you do have to do something there to complete the game (no spoilers given). And the best way to protect party members (for me at least) is to tell them to wait, then provoke the enemies by attacking them, move a little away from your party, then start attacking them. Though usually my party members are very good fighters (or were, as I don't keep them around anymore except for Aethon, who everyone tries to attack and ignores me whille I attack them).

Polyps/scylla/hydra have a role in Cythera, though their masters play an even bigger role. There not just random creatures here and there.

To be honest, the last Ambrosia game I really liked was Pop-Pop, and that was a while ago. And it was a while before Pop-Pop came out that their next-lastest game came out. . . I admit that I never downloaded Redline though. I'm interested (Jonas Echterhoff rocks, and one of my best friends beta-tested it), but not *that* interested, lol. However, Ambrosia rocks because of all the cool games (now unplayable for people without Classic) they've made before ^_^ Yay!

Redline's their best game since, I dunno, Deimos Rising or Cythera. Download it!

Oh and fighters do learn magic? Heh heh, I forgot.

tis, true all learn magic.
tis not true, the puzzles are easy.
Indeed many involve random acts. I prefer to wander Cythra and defeat villians... but I suppose, like a starfish, if you cut off an arm, they will regrow. Unlike the starfish...the Giant Polyp in the cave south of Kosha. I had to shoot it with arrows, because regular items wern't working. gosh.
that was rewarding. and Comana's leader in CAdemia has the key to Omen's chamber in the beginning test...which was "prepared by his maste"... hmmm just sayin.

Giant-gross-looking-non-harmfull-blocking-crazy-polyp == Hydra.
Hydra == Female
Funny-looking-dragon-head-and-tentacles == Scylla.
Scylla == Male.
Small-annoying-aggressive-powerfull-strong-green-tentacled-barrel == Polyp.
Polyp == Young (gender unknown, presumably female since they don't swim even though they can).

Comana and Omen are related (storywise). I'm resisting giving spoilers.

That would be good. I had a malfunction on my laptop a while ago and I couldn't create any new characters and my game was at a dead end because I killed someone important before I needed them cause I got annoyed. It sorted itself out but have any of you experts had this happen?
And the winner of the text only entry goes to CrazyChick for "Watch for B&B on bridge." Encountering the B&B anywhere is dangerous enough. Throwing a bridge into the recipe is an equation for disaster. - Ragashingo

Tons of times. Dunno why, I just removed the prefs, re-registered it, and started a new character. The second time I removed the character only and it worked. Probably glitched (the character file).
