I'm starting to think that Cythera takes place in Rome Why?

-There were Emporers named Alaric
-and Hadrian (Hence Hadrians wall)
-Slayer=Ceaser :P

But what tips the scale that it could have been else were

-Greek hero Bellophorn

But Greece was in the Roman Empire so... It could be in Rome

Were do you think it is?

I am pretty sure Cythera takes place in the island of Cythera which people fled to when their homeland was "destroyed by fire." I think. There is an island called Kythira or something in Greece. All the names are Greek also, I think.

Some names are weird, like Alaric, which is Germanic. And the Jhiaxus/Jinrai/Bahoudin family have Transformers names, but most are greek. And unless Alaric and all the other mages and such lied, Cythera is not even on Earth, if Earth exists at all in Cythera.

Cythera is obviously not part of this world.

There's a real island outside of Crete that is called Cythera though. It has the same shape as the Cythera we all know and love.

It is, presumably, significantly smaller in dimensions than the island in the game though. As for their homeland being "destroyed by fire", I took this (and the name) to be in reference to the ancient volcanic eruption on the island of Thera, which destroyed the island's population entirely. I suppose Cythera springs from around the same era, but instead of the population of Thera being killed, they are transported to another world, or dimension, or plane or what ever.

Good job. I think Cythera doesn't have to be in anywhere, because it is a game. It has to have a place and time, and this suits where it takes place.

Although most of its names and such seem to be taken from Ancient Greece and its mythology, I don't think it's intended to be anywhere on Earth. It's just somewhere in the void, according to the game...

Exactly. Probably Glenn didn't want to think up of 100+ names for characters. And certain places.

I think it is more than just names...

I can't really explain it.
