I would have told you myself, but I've been away from the boards for a few hours...too busy reading up this odd stuff about kids with birth defects...if you want to see for yourself, check out the topic on Just Chat about the baby with two heads.

At least I think it's Just Chat...

kitkut, do you have a lot of free time on your hands or something?

Yale doesn't believe in vacations. Save for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break, the one day we get off is MLK Day - and they added an extra day of classes to the end of the semester to compensate.

Does Yale actually call it Christmas break, or do they go PC with a "Winter break"?

Yeah, at my school, the powers that be declare it to be "Winter Break," while practically every student calls it Christmas break.

Guess that they have to be afraid of offending a few people...

It's Winter Break, not Christmas Break, and that makes sense. You have Summer Break and Spring Break - in fact, Thanksgiving should probably be Fall Break, except that Fall is usually pretty much over by the time it arrives.

Some schools now offer a 4-day weekend in mid-October which is rapidly becoming "Fall Break". While its a nice rest from constant schooling, it does make the spring semester seem more intense - there aren't any super-weekends, or mini-breaks (in sharp contrast to the fall semester) save Martian Luther Day and spring break.

Martian Luther Day!?! Is this some new holiday that the general public hasn't been informed about?

When I was at school we had so many bank holidays and InSET days that out of every 12 days or so one would be a day off, excluding weekends. Good times.

I love British Bank Holidays :P

We had a day off yesterday. Most of it was wasted, until around 5:30, then it was good.

It's definately Christmas break, you name holidays by what you are celebrating. I think Christmas trumps winter everytime. Of course you would name spring and summer breaks that respectfully because they are the things you are celebrating.

You lucky high school students, you!

I even had to go to school on President's Day. Stupid Uni.

Well, I'm going home, so see you all tomorrow.

President's Day is a pretend holiday. I predict it will be no more important han Arbor Day within 20 years. Not only was UNM holding classes, but it was a full work day out at Sandia as well. If government labs are beginning to not take notice of some national holidays, then the rest of the government can't be that far behind.

Also, as a complete aside, Yale easily has the worst college website of any I've seen from a major institution. It's real pretty and all, but it is near impossible to find anything. You ought to do something about that, SA. :P

Na, peoples love of holidays will swing back in a couple of years. I think people are getting tired of working all the time, so they should start taking there holidays in a year or two.

Or we could be like Canada, which has Civic Holiday pretty much just for the heck of it.

Yeah, but nobody's taking St. Valentine's, St. Patrick's, or All Saint's Day (or any of the other Saint's particular feast days) off.
