Well, if I'm new, I'm new. No problems.

After all, I've got to be new before I can be old....

I didn't realize you were new until I looked at your user join date. Keep up the good work, and you might be new, but you aren't a n00b.

I'm too slow at editing.

*Btw Mackilroy, You're into the String Theory! That's awesome. I've just become interested in it. Have you any interesting literature on it or sources that are easy enough to read while in school without thinking too hard?

Uhh, do you mean books, or do you have access to the Internet or a computer during school? If you need a book, check out String Theory by Joseph Polchinski. It's from Cambridge University Press. You can buy it from Cambridge, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Booksense, and Froogle. If you have access to the Internet, check out this website. I'll post some more below.

Superstrings, M-theory, P branes, and more

More String Theory (and a good definition)

Once you get done with those, here's Superstring Theory

I'm reading Time: A Travler's Guide right now. It's really fascinating. Some of his theories are simply mind-boggling! While you're there, check out the ESP test.

This tangent was brought to you by Viagra, delivering the most precious family deliveries since 1988.

I thought you were one of those mutated high-speed birth pregnancies. You know, the kind that take days to ease the pain of the parents.

The original Viagra had some nasty side-effects.

Well, seeing as you're discussing this sort of stuff, have you ever read any books by Arthur Koestler? Though his books were first printed in the 60's-70's, most of the theories presented in his books (particularly that gem, 'The Roots of Coincidence') are still considered valid.

Hyperspace by Michio Kaku is fun to read, it talks about many different theories of the universe, including string theory.

Yeah, I read Hyperspace as a freshman in HS. It was incredibly well-thought out (I thought so, anyway), and it raised some valid points on stuff such as the power generation abilities of peoples such as those in Star Trek.

Where could I find some of Arthur Koestler's books?

I'm not sure, because all of my copiesof his books used to be the property of my [...] uncle, I believe. Barnes and Noble should have it somewhere, I'm sure. Or any other large chain bookstore. Try an Amazon search, unless you hate used books (that's where I got my copy of 'The Lives of the twelve Caesars').

I am confused. This thread is almost as confusing as the poem in The Journalist's sig (banana tree?)
