I've been trapped in an elevator before (I live in a highrise building, it was bound to happen eventually). I happened to have my backpack and did some algebra while I waited for the fire department to arrive (took about twenty miniutes, I wasn't in any hurry). When they opened the door I found that I was in between the seventh and eighth floors and had to escape onto a step ladder set up on the seventh floor. Not very scary, or a particularly good story for that matter, but it is topical.

this elevator was having some maintenance done on it at my hotel in Walt Disney World, and my sister pushed me a the precise time required for me to trip over a tool bucket and into the shaft.
