I think the stick figures really aid in projection. For instance, I'm certain that all of the ladies in xkcd are all kinds of attractive, despite the fact that they're stick figures with hair. If they were drawn in a more complex manner, some of that would undoubtedly be lost. It's like the projective magic provided by books in an easy to comprehend image.

I wonder if anyone has ever complained to Randall Monroe that xkcd sets unrealistic expectations for women's bodies.

I'd say I'd only get around 1/4 the xkcd comics i've read. Most are far too clever for me to even begin to comprehend. Others are too surreal to be funny and the remaining just aren't funny/to my taste.
I'd go with Cyanide and Happiness anyday over xkcd.
