I prefer chocolate fondue, but to each his own.

Fondue is awesome. Chocolate fountains are better though.

Mmm...chocolate....

"I'm a fountain?"

Hehe. Would've loved that line to be:

"I'm a fountain?"

>_>

"Yes. Made of chocolate."

And now, a message from your local DeSoto-Plymouth dealership.

"Check out the all new for '52 DeSoto Firedome. Unlike some of our competitors' cars, the Firedome uses a high performance 160hp "hemi" V8 that uses twice as much fuel per mile than a comparable vehicle made by Ford or GM. That low gas mileage means that you're getting the smoothest ride and most powerful acceleration possible. To offset that fuel consumption, the new DeSotos are all equipped with the largest fuel tanks on the market today. You'll be cruising easy and carefree in your new, ultra-stylish Firedome. Listen to Groucho, and go on over to your local DeSoto-Plymouth dealership to drive the new DeSoto today!"

But... But... It's making fun of '50s American sensibilities.

The 1950s consisted of America being needlessly optimistic based on mass self-delusion. The only thing more remarkable than the actual '50's American sensibilities is the nostalgia widely held for that period. With the possible exceptions of Eisenhower in the White House and automotive design, there is very little that we haven't improved on since then.

But then of course there was also the widespread anti-communist sensibilities that were just fun and hadn't quite grown to the level of hatred and terror we would see in the 60s.

I hardly think that the age of McCarthyism was all brightness and light.

I think we've got a new age of it right now, and I'm not sure how much of it is justified...

Wasn't the 50s before McCarthyism?
