Come on people, get off the fence!
I said "C'est Possible" because there are many meanings of "le gout". And none of them are nouns (as far as I'm aware).

French people say "le" (or "la" or "les", as the case may be) in front of just about everything. I honestly have no idea what "Avez-vous le gout?" means, and this is like my seventh year of French. "Do you have the [you] taste" makes no sense no matter how you look at it.
"Gout", as far as I know, is a form of the verb "gouter", or "to taste". So asking someone if you have it just doesn't make sense.
Learn to talk French, honestly.

However, saying "the leap" is perfectly acceptable, as "leap" is a noun.

With a bit of context and logistical skills, it's unneccessary to know how to speak French. My French is minimal, but I could still deduce that the question meant 'Do you have taste?', in reference to the Molson Ex Light motto mentioned in dude3's initial post. A simple Google translation will even tell you that 'goût' means 'taste'. Learn to use the internet, honestly.

Why do schools never teach you the useful stuff first? In a foreign country I am probably not going to need to find a stationery shop. I will, however, need to find the airport, a supermarket, the train station, the bus depot and other useful places. I do not need to know how to say, "This is a ruler."

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending how you look at it), English has definitely made its mark across international borders. Most places that you go to, you can rest assured someone nearby will be able to understand you and/or translate if neccessary, and in my experience people are generally very willing to help out.

That's awesome. I wish I could do that.
I do not believe that "gout" is a noun. I will ask my French teacher later. She's from Switzerland and I trust her when it comes to French more than you and definitely more than Google.

"Le gout" is indeed "taste", both a verb and as in "fashion taste", ie "She has great taste in 17th century barn furniture".
I'm deeply sorry.
Also, thanks for the tip. Now I can post naughty words in binary! Yay!
