Murphy was a guy in the forties that got strapped to a rocket sled to test human acceleration tolerances. They put 12 motion sensors in each of his pockets (you know, how many pockets Air Force flight suits have, right?) that would only work when pointed one way. All 12 of them got put in backwards, and he had run that experiment all for naught.
And that's how we got Murphy's Law.

I vastly prefer using text to convey ideas, speaking face-to-face (much less voice-to-voice, which is a stupid idea in and of itself) is greatly overrated.

Text is especially useful when the people speaking don't share the same native language (or country, dialects can be a pain to understand).
