Most of the East half of it was Texas between 1836 and 1845.

I asked Ben Adams what he was doing in #ev3 earlier today. No response whatsoever. On the other hand, he was preoccupied with people getting the #redline keyword.

Then it later became a state in its own right? so he was being sarcastic in a really convaluted way?

{Ankhwatcher hopes he used convaluted correctly... he was just struck by a sudden urge use it in a sentance.}

Correct.

Neither Texas nor New Mexico were states then, they were simply a piece of territory that the US gained in the Mexican-American War. The short-lived Lone Star Republic, which Texans trace their heritage to, claimed everything east of the Rio Grande which would have included the eastern half of New Mexico. As soon as the US dissolved the Lone Star Republic, Texas became Texas and present-day New Mexico, Arizona, and southern Nevada (the region surrounding Las Vegas) became the New Mexico Territory. By and by, Arizona and Nevada split off leaving what is present day New Mexico which subsequently became a state in 1912. Texas, to this day, claims that we are rightfully their's, which only serves to piss we New Mexicans off. Thus you can see how I am as much in Texas as you happen to be in England, which is to say that we aren't.

Merry Christmas!

Ah, and that answers another question... where the hell is new mexico.

Only Ian Paisley still claims Ireland is part of England however.
And he's a wacko.

That would be "counties" as of the early 1900s.

You're kidding me, right? After all, it's New York that supplies new Jersey with toxic airborne chemicals. And every single New Yorker seems to have a family in New Jersey... So don't count on taking us over. It basically is part of New York. Anyone who says, "I'm from New Jersey" is admitting they live in the far southern parts of New York.
