Don't know what to tell ya. Still can't happen without Glenn Andreas.

Perhaps we could find Glenn and use the bayonett!

I don't think that is going to get us any closer to what we want at all. If we're going to e-mail him, we should ask him if he could please consult with ambrosia about this matter. I don't know... something.

Could somebody post a different thread about this? I dont' want to throw this thing completely off topic.

If you're going to bring up bayonetting, you might want to do it in a topic that I've got a chance to actually read (morbid curiousity made me wonder just what was so exciting about SETI@Home to actually check this thread).

And for the record, [b]I[b] don't have a problem with doing a sequel to Cythera. There are, unfortunately, other issues (like having the time to dedicate to complete it, pesky litte thing called money, and the like - so if I win the Powerball...)

I suppose I acted rashly, But it is good to hear that you would be willing to make a Cythera2 if you ha the resources. Your problem of time however could have been solved by recruiting the legions of eger young volenteer programers who (would gladly work for free) while Cythera was in its prime. However since you also have a problem of funds why did you not kindly ask for donations? As far as I can see you might at least be able to ment the gaping holes and pesky bugs in Cythera's senario--We frankly don't care if the Delver Engine® is hardly an ideal editor, many EVers use raw ResEdit data. I also understand that cythera is far more complex than EV, but [b]the game itself can be broken down into basic components such as MAP, SPRITES, BITS, PEOPLE, OBJECTS, and CODES.

The map is simply the [b]placement of Terrain, Items, Furniture, People, and other specials--as well as pointing to the sprites that belong to them.

Sprites would contain all of the designated images that are pointed to.

Bits would contain the mission bits that set off responses and special events

People would contain the agressiveness traits, Respond-with-this-code-if-bit-is-this markers, and would point to the person's sprite.

Objects would show what codes/bits activate when objects are worn or used, how much they weigh, and in some cases how much they can hold.

CODES would be what cetain flgs activate, and combat AI scripts. It would also include spells.

The rest would be hard coded into the game itself to help to discourage any change to the engine itself--and thus to have a solid foundation on which to make cythera what other ambrosia games are and therefore successful--EXPANDABILITY

*Phew* that was a mouthful

Cythera, to me, is kind of like the best movie or book. Long, flowing plot as you go, many perils and suspense, and mystery, and intrigue... I like the emotions that Cythera gives that no other game, especially no crappy game like UT could EVER give me. It's those... feelings: What/who is behind all of this? What does that mean? What are these things? What happened? This is scary. This is weird. I wonder why this is? This is confusing. This is shocking. Wow. The pieces all fit together now. I can't believe it. Etc etc etc. Except for the other games that I like the best, NO other game has EVER given me these types of emotion. And you also get that "I'm there" feeling, and all of those relaxing ambient sounds, and the music... I just wish I was there sometimes. I never felt before that I wanted to be in some world, since it would always seem so naive, but the land of Cythera... Ahhhhhh. And there's the adventure: there is so much obersvation and intrigue in the adventure, so many perils, and surprises, everything. And there are so many oppurtunities for you in the land of Cythera. I've noticed how the adventure in Cythera isn't exactly so narrowed: You can do these priorities now or later, you can come down and sleep for the night, you can go to Pnyx, you can explore for cool secrets, you can make money, and MORE oppurtunities. I still love Cythera, and I still play it frequently. The point of it was not to just show a bunch of aggressive action and survival like UT or Diablo II, but to give the emotion and feeling of the adventure and plot, offer all the intrigue of the fascinating experiences in a land full of amazing possibilities, all through an RPG, literally fun-packed style game. Those who say Cythera is a bad game don't seem to understand that.   Posted Image). But for me, Cythera has nothing left to offer.

Now, I realize I've fallen out of the loop of the best new computer games in the last year. What is this Unreal Tournament? And I heard of a Castle Siege over the summer that I also missed, but it has not been mentioned in this topic and I assume has been replaced. When I play anything, its RoboWar or rarely D2. D2 suits me well (besides the lousy roleplaying) but it, too, has gotten overly repetative and even with the patch I've only played maybe twice since, and on single player. Honestly I'd really like to make my own RPG (and have layed out a lot of the ideas in my head), but the two languages I've taken classes in are C++ and VB, and I don't know anything more than basic graphics in C++, and VB has pissed me (and, more importantly, my computer) off recently.
