Good lord. You could just walk into a store and buy a katana?
If we went back in time a couple years to when I was still a minor, I could have sold him that katana (and still can, I have a wholesaler's account with a weapon distributer) here in New Mexico. In fact, so long as a minor doesn't actually have it in his unsupervised possession during the transaction, a minor can purchase firearms in this fair state as there are underage firearm possession laws, not purchasing laws.

The clause is intended so that the US can defend itself if invaded, not so that people can wander around waving lethal weapons like designer handbags. Why do you think that there are more murders in the US than the rest of the world combined? Why do you think that the attrition rate for American cops in the US is higher than for American soldiers in Iraq? Why do you think... ah, forget it.
Guns kill people. Or at least, guns in the hands of Americans kill people. Maybe the Swiss know how to handle them; children in the US do not.

You have to be 21 to buy a gun in the U.S. You cant even buy ammunition if your under 21.
That isn't even close to being true. The legal age to purchase a firearm is regulated on a state-to-state basis. As I have already said in this topic, there is no minimum age to purcase a firearm in my state, and there are absolutely no state laws here regulating any kind of ammo at all, much less declaring an legal age to possess.

That isn't true either. While Madison did occasionally mention protection from an invading force as a basis for the Second Amendment, it was usually as a side note. Protection from the formation of a despotic regime was the primary motivation for writing the Second Amendment according to Madison who, along with Hamilton, Jay, Jefferson and numerous other founding fathers, also wrote that the right to firearms for purposes related to food procurement and self defense was a given right of every free man. We can certainly take Madison's word for it as not only was he President of this land, but he also was the man who wrote the Second Amendment.

Then how did the two architects of the Columbine Shooting manage to buy all of their bullets for $9 at a K-Mart down the street a day or two before the incident? K-Mart may have reformed their sales policy since then, but a lot of stores haven't. A 10-minute drive to the nearest mall, and I could pick up ammunition, possibly even a gun, if I wanted to.

I'll take your word on the despotic regime intention, but self defense was an entirely different matter back when the Constitution was framed. Having a gun in an uncivilised country still trying to pull itself into a nation and having a gun in a modern, civilised state are two very different things.

And Shinobi: I've never been held up, and I've lived in the US all of my life. It depends on where you live, who you hang out with, and your parents' behaviorial habits.

Yeah, in the same way that having the freedom of speech to speak out against the government was a very different thing back when the government was less stable and wasn't as modern and civilized as it is now.

Are you even from the United States SA? Cause if you not, you shouldn't even be talking.
It doesn't matter where SA is from, he still has a right to his opinion and can express it on this board. But that is irrelevant as he is presently living on US soil and faces the same problems that the rest of us do (being an Aussie doesn't make you bulletproof, although that would be cool ).

Beleive it or not, but I've been held up a few times. Criminals prefer knives, not guns. They're too expenisve.
You must have some pretty lame criminals up in Reno. If a criminal can't afford to plop down a hundred bucks to get some P.O.S. gun, he should seriously reconsider his career choice.

Go to downtown Reno or LA, and you'll get held up for sure. You'll just get shot if you wear red in reno or orange in LA.
As I said, if you wander around a bad neighborhood you're inviting trouble. The majority of US cities aren't like that. Unless you're an idiot and go around looking for trouble in dark alleys just to prove me wrong.
