Then the ants would eat it.

... or would they?

If ants have are able to sense the difference between edible and non-edible, then they won't.

Jack Russell terriers, schipperkes, and/or Irish wolfhounds work better on cat removal and population control.

I find that large window air conditioners turned to fan-only year-round drown out the sound of cats, gunfire, large scale aviation accidents, and small nuclear explosions. Of course, you have to then get used to the constant sound of a jet engine in your window, but at least you'll be prepared to be the most comfortable person on the block during those February global warming heat waves. The new digs de' Pufer that I'm soon to be moving into full time has a brand new $30,000 climate control system that, inexplicably, doesn't make it to the room I'll be sleeping in, but the extreme racket of my new window air conditioner drowning out the world's sounds more than makes up for that oversight.

Why not just soundproof your walls and get multi-paned windows?

And why not turn it to ultracool and run it through your computer case?

The walls already consist of steel-reinforced solid concrete block, I can't imagine that you could get much more soundproof than that, and I don't want to change out the windows lest I lose the incredibly sturdy cast iron frames that they are in right now (not to mention that I'd have to remove the wrought iron bars on the inside and outside to get to it to change it out).

To head off the inevitable question, no, I'm not moving to prison, just a regular ol' house that was built to the standards of a military bunker.

Yeah, I figure that the place is probably about as secure as my current 10th floor condo, which is really saying quite a lot.

I'm allergic to some cats. I like the ones I'm not allergic to.

I generally tend to be a cat fan, but If I touch my eyes after huggling one I am done.

I like cats, but I am allergic to the kind that has long claws and uses them.

How about the fat kind that sits in your lap while you play games?
