I'm an American and I don't have a gun. That doesn't mean I think guns should be banned.

If someone were trying to kill you, I'd bet that they'd fall into the latter category.

I'm an American and have more personal firearms than probably 99% of the world's population, but that doesn't mean that I'm addicted to them. In fact, I fail to see how one can be addicted to owning firearms to begin with. It's like saying one is addicted to carpet. Sure one mey have carpet on his floors, even extremely nice carpet, and it is certainly true that they could exist without that carpet, but that doesn't make him addicted to it. The homeowner may like having carpet (and I like having guns) better than the alternative, but that is not addiction.

Put it this way, If i took your guns away, banned them and made them illegal. Would you seek out an unlawful way of obtaining them?
I'm not suggesting you are addicted to the guns themselves, merely the feeling of security you get from having a gun about your person.
A drug addict feels like they can't go on, cannot live their lives without the drugs.
Would you not feel similar without your trusty firearm?

P.S. I seriously doubt that you have more firearms than 99% of the world's population, unless you have a bunker full of M16's.

Probably not. It might look bad for an employee of the nation's premier nuclear weapons laboratory to be caught breaking federal law, probably affect my security clearance.

Yeah, probably. I don't get to carry it around really at all any more. It's against state law to take it on campus with me and against federal law to bring it to work, so my guns have been just sitting at home for the most part. There are some situations I find myself in where it is comforting being armed, but I could probably survive without my gun.

I figure that most of the world's population doesn't own any personal firearms, and of those who do, most don't have more than one or two (if for no other reason than most of the people on this planet wouldn't be able to afford 'em). I think it would be a safe bet that at least 95% of the people out there on the planet don't personally have more than 10 firearms and don't think that 99% is all that big a stretch. 1% of the total global population is still one heck of a lot of people.

I think a game of Avara is in order, or maybe Aleph One. Maybe Spectre/Ares/anything else good and Appletalk, if I can figure out tunnelling.

I think you're posting on the wrong board. I think half of us have never played Avara and/or Aleph One. :P
